If you have one or more teeth that are missing, badly damaged, or beyond the point of saving, we invite you to contact True Oral, Facial & Dental Implant Surgery to learn about your tooth replacement options. Dr. Straw specializes in implant-based restoration to help you achieve a complete and fully functioning smile.
Why Replace Missing Teeth?
Tooth roots are embedded into the jaw bone. During chewing, the roots stimulate the bone, keeping the jaw strong. When a tooth is missing, there is no root to stimulate the bone in that area, leading to jaw bone atrophy. Over time, this can lead to dental shifting or cause facial features to sag.
In order to receive a dental implant, there must be enough healthy bone to support it. If you do not have adequate bone in the jaw, Dr. Straw can place a bone grafting in the area where more bone is needed. Bone grafting can regrow bone, producing a strong foundation and helping more patients become eligible for dental implants.
The 4 Biggest Advantages of Dental Implants
The implant post fuses to the jaw bone, creating a solid foundation that can last a lifetime with proper care. Your implant stays in during eating and cleaning, and becomes a permanent, stable addition to your smile.
Your implant makes eating comfortable again and because it is embedded into the jaw bone, it is strong enough to allow you to eat your favorite foods. There are no moving parts or pieces that cause oral sores like traditional dentures.
Good for Oral Health.
The presence of a dental implant acts like a natural tooth root and prevents jaw bone loss associated with tooth loss. Dental implants prevent adjacent teeth from shifting into the open space left by a missing tooth, maintaining dental alignment and a healthy bite.
Results You’ll Love.
Once your implant treatment is complete, your dental implants will look and feel natural. The replacement tooth is designed to blend in with your other teeth for beautiful aesthetic results, allowing you to eat, laugh, and enjoy life with confidence in your smile again.
Types of Dental Implants
Dr. Straw will create a treatment plan custom to your oral health, smile goals, and financial needs. We offer many types of dental implant treatment options, including:
- Single Tooth Replacement. We use one dental implant to replace one tooth anywhere in the mouth.
- Implant-Supported Bridge. Ideal for multiple missing teeth next to each other, this method uses a dental implant post to support a bridge. It is entirely self-supportive and does not rely on existing teeth like traditional dental bridges.
- Immediate Implants. If you need a tooth extracted, we can replace it with a dental implant on the same day as the extraction, saving you time and money.
- Full-Arch Restoration. Several implant posts are inserted and attached to a fixed denture, resulting in a new arch of teeth. This is ideal for patients missing most or all of their teeth.
Dental Implant Surgery
During your first visit, Dr. Straw will evaluate your oral health and create your custom treatment plan. We will take 3D scans of your mouth and help you select the right type of anesthesia or sedation for your oral surgery. Many patients undergo IV sedation for dental implant placement.
Once the anesthesia has been administered, your oral surgeon will make an incision in the gum tissue and insert the implant post. We will place sutures and you will rest in our office until the anesthesia wears off and you are ready to go home.
Over the next few months, the implant will fuse to the jaw bone. Once the implant has healed, a restorative or general dentist will attach your final crown, completing your restoration.
Cost of Dental Implants in Irvine, CA
The cost of dental implants varies. We take several factors into consideration, including the number and type of implants you need, if you require other oral and maxillofacial surgery procedures, anesthesia, and dental insurance. We will provide you with a cost estimate during the consultation. As a courtesy, our front desk staff will submit an insurance claim on your behalf, provided we have the necessary information.
Some patients turn to dentures or bridges to replace missing teeth. While cheaper upfront, these options can be inconvenient and the cost can add up. Dentures must be replaced every few years and if not professionally fitted, they can cause oral sores. You must clean around bridges and fixed appliances, and some may require special products for proper care and maintenance. This can make it difficult to maintain good oral hygiene.
Dental implants require no special care and have high success rates. Patients who wear dentures often turn to dental implants for a more convenient, long-term solution.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who is not suitable for dental implants?
Patients with a suppressed immune system, severe gum disease, or those taking steroids may not be suitable for dental implants. If you habitually clench or grind your teeth, you may not qualify because this can put too much pressure on the replacement teeth.
Do tooth implants hurt?
If you undergo IV sedation, you will not feel discomfort during the procedure. The post-operative instructions we provide will guide you through recovery to help minimize swelling and discomfort. We may prescribe pain medications to help, but many patients are able to manage any pain with over-the-counter medications.
What is the recovery time for dental implants?
You can expect to resume your normal activities 1–2 days after dental implant surgery. It will take several months for the implant post to fully heal.
Can dental implants be done in one day?
Yes, these are called same-day or immediate dental implants. As long as you have enough jaw bone, you can receive a dental implant on the same day as a tooth extraction. This eliminates the need for a separate implant placement procedure, saving you both time and money.
